Libertarian Party of Texas (LPT) state chair Pat Dixon commented, "We are excited to have Bob Barr on the ballot, but we also think it is unfortunate that Texas election rules limit choices to just three presidential candidates." Ralph Nader, the Green Party, and the Constitution Party failed in their petition efforts to qualify for the Texas ballot.
The party also hopes to attract Ron Paul supporters. "Many Libertarian Party members in Texas helped Ron Paul's presidential campaign. However, young Ron Paul supporters have not flocked to Bob Barr or the Libertarian Party as fast as we had hoped. We hope Bob Barr's visits to Texas will help build bridges," said Wes Benedict, LPT Executive Director. "Some may be planning to write in Ron Paul's name, but the Secretary of State has said that write-in votes for Ron Paul will not be counted."
