Texas Libertarian Party sees big jump in contributions
AUSTIN - July 17, 2008 - The Libertarian Party of Texas (LPT) has reported $81,765.81 in contributions for the first six months of 2008. That is up from $54,204.57 for the first six months of 2007, and $55,454.24 for the first six months of 2006.
"Our contributions have increased about 50 percent over previous years," said Wes Benedict, LPT Executive Director. "While the numbers are small compared to the Democrats and Republicans, we deliver a big bang for the buck."
"Texas Libertarian candidates broke lots of records in 2006. Furthermore, I think our current candidates have received a record number of phone calls from opponents' campaigns begging them to drop out of their races," said Benedict.
A record 173 Texas Libertarian candidates are currently certified for the November 2008 ballot.
