FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Libertarian Senate candidate Schick will protest KERA candidate debate
AUSTIN - October 14, 2008 - Yvonne Schick, the Texas Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate, has announced that she will hold a press conference outside the KERA studios to protest her exclusion from the Senate candidate debate on October 16.
The press conference will occur on Thursday, October 16, at 7:00 p.m., outside the KERA studios at 3000 Harry Hines Boulevard, Dallas, Texas.
Schick has been notified by KERA that she will not be permitted to participate in the debate. Only the Republican and Democratic Party candidates will be allowed in.
Schick appeared with the Republican and Democratic candidates in a televised debate in Houston on October 9. Schick has said that she has received hundreds of contacts in the last few days from voters outraged that she will not be allowed into the Dallas debate.
KERA is a PBS station in Dallas.
Wes Benedict, Executive Director of the Libertarian Party of Texas (LPT), said, "KERA's decision is outrageous. Texas voters should be angry that their tax dollars are being spent to promote the Republican and Democratic candidates, while keeping the Libertarian candidate off the stage. Is KERA afraid of letting voters see the option of a Libertarian who favors greatly reducing the size and scope of government?"
Benedict continued, "I'm glad to see that the League of Women Voters, which co-sponsored the Houston debate, has chosen not to sponsor this unfair Dallas debate. We've heard that the League of Women Voters does not agree with KERA's unethical decision."
